Game Time: 3:30 pm ET
Venue: Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA
Iowa has pretty much been what we thought it would be.
Great defense, great running game, stifling at times against Wyoming, and clutch when it had to be against Iowa State. But now that it’s done with the future NFL superstar, and now that the road rivalry game its in the rearview mirror, it’s time to get down to business.
With Penn State up next, and a date at Michigan State to follow, any more tweaking and tuning has to be done now.
North Texas is the exact right team for Iowa right now considering it’s about improving and adapting.
The Mean Green have a passing game to push the suddenly-soft Hawkeye secondary, and they have just enough pop to make this more than a light scrimmage.
One Reason Why Iowa Will Win
Time to ramp up the Hawkeye pass rush.
It worked against Josh Allen and Wyoming – the star QB never got comfortable – but Iowa State did a nice job of getting the ball out of Jacob Park’s hands in a hurry and giving him time to work.
North Texas will throw and keep throwing, but the offensive line isn’t good enough to handle the Hawkeyes if the can get into the backfield from the start.
Forget about North Texas running the ball – Iowa should be fully focused on …
One Reason Why North Texas Will Win
The North Texas quarterback tried his best to keep up the pace with SMU last week, throwing for 424 yards and three touchdowns in the 54-32 loss. He might have thrown two picks, but he’s a strong passer who’ll keep the pressure on all game long.
Park and Iowa State had the Hawkeyes in big, big trouble last week, throwing for 347 yards and four touchdowns with several plays of over 20 yards. Iowa is spending the week trying to tweak to make sure that doesn’t happen again, but if Fine gets time, he’ll keep on pushing.
What’s Going To Happen
Will Akrum Wadley have to continue being the hero?
He saved the day against Iowa State, and he’s looked every bit the part of the superstar running back the team was hoping for. He won’t be needed too much, but he’ll be effective when he needs to be.
James Butler has to get going for a running game that’s been okay, but not quite dominant enough.
This week, it’ll be more than fine, and Fine.
