Watch: Georgia Kicker Announces To Teammates He Has Been Put On Scholarship
It was a historic night for the Georgia Bulldogs in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday as UGA went north of the Mason-Dixon line for the first time since 1965.
Georgia defeated Notre Dame on Saturday night in a defensive thriller, 20-19.
In the end, it was the Georgia defense that was too much for Notre Dame to handle, as the constant blitz eventually overwhelmed a talented Irish offensive line.
The game ended when senior outside linebacker Davin Bellamy got around the edge and was able to force a fumble out of the hands of quarterback Brandon Wimbushm, which was recovered by fellow senior Lorenzo Carter.
However, prior to the fumble, Georgia took a late lead via the foot of walk-on kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, who nailed a 30 yarder with 3:34 remaining on the game clock. That was Blankenship’s second made field goal of the night, and it was enough to send the 35,000(ish) Georgia fans in attendance home happy.
Blankenship’s lack of scholarship had been a story many Georgia fans have been following since the kicker burst onto the scene in 2016, connecting on 14-18 field goals.
At last, Blankenship’s wait has ended, as he announced to his teammates that he has been awarded a scholarship at UGA. What a special moment.
