In 1986, Kentucky welcomed Florida into its house and came away with a 10-3 win. 30 years later, the Wildcats are still trying to figure out how to get by the Gators.

There have been close calls, ugly blowouts, and everything in between.

And now, it’s Kentucky’s time to show that it’s about to change things up. It’s the moment when the SEC East looks winnable, the opportunity is there, and it has to take advantage of the moment.

The high-powered offense hasn’t shown up yet, but the defense has been stellar in wins over Southern Miss, Eastern Kentucky, and South Carolina. With Eastern Michigan and Missouri at home to follow, break the painful, longtime losing streak, and the Cats are 6-0 going into the road trip to Mississippi State.

Florida was a fat load of hot garbage for the first seven quarters and 14:45 of the season, but one Feleipe Franks fly-pattern touchdown pass against Tennessee later, and the dreams of a third straight division title are back on.

Lose to Kentucky, though, and things might turn ugly in a big, big hurry for head coach Jim McElwain.

One Reason Why Kentucky Will Win

Florida’s offense has, for the most part, been abysmal.

Forget the miraculous touchdown pass to Tyrie Cleveland. That was about it for the attack against the Vols until the fourth quarter.

There were two nice runs all game long, but nothing sustainable, and Franks only hit two decent passes before cranking up the winner.

Kentucky’s defense has been fantastic against the run – allowing just 57 yards per game – while the defense has been outstanding at taking the ball away.

Beat Florida at its own game – win the turnover margin, win the time of possession, be the tougher team.

One Reason Why Florida Will Win

You mean besides the voodoo hex the program has on Kentucky when it comes to this long, long, long winning streak?

The Gator pass rush has been terrific over the first two games with six sacks and 16 tackles for loss. UK hasn’t had to deal with a whole lot of pressure into the backfield quite yet, and still, the offense hasn’t done much of anything consistently well.

It took Benny Snell 32 carries to get to 102 yards and two touchdowns against South Carolina, but Steven Johnson and the passing game haven’t been rocking.

IF the Gators can get up early, the D should do the rest.

What’s Going To Happen

This goes beyond logic and reason.

Kentucky is playing better than Florida, and it might just have the defense and the atmosphere to pull this off. But never, ever, ever mess with a streak.

It will be a whole world of ugly, but the Gators will get by on three interceptions and four Eddy Pineiro field goals, including two in the fourth to pull away.
