With all the big boys in the Atlantic to play, each team needs this win.

Yeah, every team needs every win, but considering Boston College had to scratch and claw to get out of Northern Illinois alive, and Wake Forest – despite a good first showing – will likely have to fight to get every win it can grab, this is a key for each team’s bowl hopes.

It might have only been against Presbyterian, but the Demon Deacons opened up the offense and looked dangerous for the first time in a long time. The passing game was crisp, the defense was swarming, and it turned into a great scrimmage to show off all the experience and upside.

Meanwhile, BC struggled to get its new uptempo offense going against NIU, but the defense held on. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a road win.

Both teams are 1-0. They’re not going to complain.

One Reason Why Wake Forest Will Win

The BC offense really, really didn’t work.

Northern Illinois is good, but it’s hardly a brick wall, Even so, Jon Hilliman was held to 58 rushing yards for a ground game that didn’t go anywhere, and QB Anthony Brown had a tough time getting the attack moving.

Get ready for the Demon Deacon defense to swarm.

Duke Ejiofor came up with three tackles for loss last week, the defense held the Blue Hens to just 41 passing yards, and everything clicked on offense. But that was Presbyterian.

One Reason Why Boston College Will Win

No, the new offensive style might not have been perfect, but BC was able to control the tempo of the game against NIU – and the clock.

The Eagles had third down chance after third down chance, doing a nice job of grinding down drives and never letting the Huskies get into any sort of rhythm.

Huskie QB Ryan Graham ran well, but he was never comfortable throwing the ball, and he was it – the Eagle stopped the rest of the NIU ball-carriers cold.

What’s Going To Happen

This is when Wake Forest starts to look the part as more than just a try-hard team looking to get by.

The offensive balance, experience, and tough defense will be just enough to overcome a strong day from the Eagle D,

While the BC O will try to provide the pop and power, it won’t be able to control the clock like it wants to – the Demon Deacons are pretty good at that, too.
