Before playing Alabama and getting into the conference season, the CSU Rams had a chance to work out some kinks in their game.

Coming off a disappointing game in the Rocky Mountain Showdown, the Colorado State Rams looked to get back on track against FCS Abilene Christian.

The Rams had a good showing today, but they still have a few things to work out. The offense was ok, the defense was stout, and special teams has some things to go over.

The Rams offense was decent today. They had 605 total yards for the day. They could’ve done better. Receivers dropping the ball and the line was missing assignments. This game should’ve been over by half time, but simple mistakes had the Rams only up 17 points.

Nick Stevens was efficient. He was putting the ball where the receivers could get it, but they dropped a number of balls today. Stevens finished the game with 25 completions on 40 attempts for 337 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Stevens also had the longest run of the day. He had a 41-yard scamper when he couldn’t find an open receiver.

The receivers had a good day as 7 different receivers caught a pass today. Michael Gallup led the way with 10 catches for 103 yards and one touchdown. Detrich Clark and Izzy Matthews had the other two touchdown catches on the day.

The running game had a good day. Seven runners combined for 38 rushes for 268 yards and two touchdowns. Izzy Matthews led the day with 12 carries for 89 yards. Dalyn Dawkins had 12 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Marvin Kinsey, Jr. had the other rushing touchdown for the Rams.

The defense had a great day. They held the Wildcats to 333 total yards. Of that 62 yards were rushing and 271 yards were passing. The defense wasn’t going to have a game like last week, but they were able to get pressure on the Wildcats quarterback. The defense ended up with one sack and two interceptions. Jamal Hicks had both interceptions for the defense.

Special Teams had a lapse today. Punting the ball, the Wildcats were able to block the kick and return it for a touchdown. This was a lapse in blocking as no one laid a hand on the rusher.

Overall, the Rams had a decent game today. There are still some kinks to work out before they play Alabama and enter the conference season. But this team could do some things this year.
