WVU’s Marcus Simms arrested for DUI
After being counted as one of West Virginia’s upcoming talents, receiver Marcus Simms was arrested for DUI over the weekend in Morgantown.
MORGANTOWN — In the midst of move-in weekend for WVU students, sophomore wide receiver Marcus Simms was arrested and charged with DUI and driving a license suspended or revoked for DUI, according to reports.
According to the Dominion Post. the criminal complaint stated that Simms’ vehicle was pulled over by Monongalia County Deputy Sheriff E. Mongold because a taillight was out. The Dominion Post reported that when the officer approached Simms’ vehicle, the receiver smelled a strong odor of marijuana and noticed Simms’ eyes were “glassy and bloodshot.”
Simms then told the officer that his license had been revoked and the Domion Post reported that paperwork showed Simms was arrested in May in Maryland for DUI, but the case had not yet gone to court.
After he failed his sobriety tests, Simms was arrested, according to the report. A search found marijuana residue all over the vehicle and there were burnt marijuana cigarettes in the ash tray.
Simms had six catches for 95 yards and a touchdown last season after filling in on the outside for injured receiver Ka’Raun White. He was expected to be a bright spot on WVU’s revamped offense this season.
