Sports Illustrated published their annual list of the top college football players in America, which is dominated by 25 SEC athletes for 2017.

The list is topped by Florida State safety Derwin James and includes nine Alabama athletes who made the cut, the most among all schools. Crimson Tide cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick was the highest SEC athlete, appearing at No. 6.

Georgia is represented by junior defensive tackle Trenton Thompson at No. 62 and senior running back Nick Chubb, ranked 66th. SI said of Thompson, “At full strength, the 6′ 4″, 295-pound junior can function as a wrecking ball that cramps the pocket and storms the backfield.”

The magazine’s description of Chubb included the following:

Chubb raised plenty of eyebrows by returning to Athens after an up-and-down junior year in which he only occasionally flashed the explosiveness of the first season and a half of his college career. The Bulldogs’ backfield is crowded, thanks to Sony Michel’s equally surprising decision to turn down the draft, and even with the potential for a more conservative workload, Chubb risks a repeat of the knee injury that cut short his 2015 season—this time with higher stakes for his NFL stock. When healthy, he’s shown he can be the best back in the SEC on a given Saturday.
