CFN 2017 College Football Preview

Conference Champion Prediction

@Pete Fiutak, CFN:

ACC: Florida State – The Noles will beat Miami in the first time the two – finally, finally, FINALLY – meet for the title.

Big Ten: Michigan – The Wolverines win a regular season rematch over Wisconsin – to go along with the huge victory at home over Ohio State – to go off to the CFP.

Big 12: Oklahoma – Oklahoma State wins the regular season battle, but the Sooners get their revenge in the Big 12 Championship – and don’t go to the  College Football Playoff.

Conference USA: Louisiana Tech – There’s rebuilding to do, but the Bulldogs will roll through the West with ease before dealing with Middle Tennessee.

MAC: Toledo – The best team in the MAC over the last few years without a title finally gets the job done.

Mountain West: Boise State – The Broncos deny San Diego State its chance at a threepeat, but watch out for Colorado State to make a whole lot of noise.

Pac-12: Washington – The underappreciated Huskies will beat USC in the most watched Pac-12 Championship yet.

SEC: Alabama – Georgia gets to the title game, but along with the season-opener and the College Football Playoff National Championship, this will be the second of three games for the Tide in Atlanta’s big new stadium.

Sun Belt: Appalachian State – It’ll be an entertaining year in a conference with a whole slew of fascinating storylines and issues. And then the Mountaineers will end up on top.

@Rich Cirminiello, CFN:

AAC: South Florida

ACC: Florida State

Big Ten: Ohio State

Big 12: Oklahoma State

Conference USA: Western Kentucky

MAC: Toledo

Mountain West: Boise State

Pac-12: Washington

SEC: Alabama

Sun Belt: Appalachian State

@Jeff Feyerer, CFN:

AAC: Houston – I wavered between the Cougars and South Florida. Quentin Flowers is going to be huge, but there are serious questions about the Bull defense. I don’t have the same questions about Houston.

ACC: Florida State – I still think Louisville has a shot this year, I’m not buying the NC State as a conference contender hype,  I see a slight step back for Clemson and I think Miami threatens but ultimately goes down in the conference title game.

Big Ten: Ohio State – The Buckeyes take down Michigan, and then either Wisconsin – if Alex Hornibrook becomes more than a placeholder – or Northwestern in the title game.

Big 12: Oklahoma – I really want to say Oklahoma State, but can’t see them taking the Sooners down twice, even with the coaching change in Norman.

Conference USA: Middle Tennessee – The turnover at Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky create an opportunity for the Blue Raiders

MAC: Toledo – The departure of PJ Fleck and Zach Terrell open the door for Logan Woodside and the Rockets

Mountain West: Boise State – Brett Rypien and Cedrick Wilson put on aerial acrobatics on the “Smurf Turf”.

Pac-12: Washington – I think Stanford poses a bigger threat to the Pac-12 crown than USC, but the balance the Huskies bring to the table along with the experience Peterson’s boys gained last season trump the losses in the secondary. Washington State is a sleeper and the ol’ Apple Cup could have a lot on the line.

SEC: Auburn – They beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl than Florida in the SEC Title Game and could conceivably get to the Playoff with two losses, but more likely go 12-1.

Sun Belt: Appalachian State – No longer having to split carries with fellow 1,000 yard back Marcus Cox, there’s a good chance reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year Jalin Moore threatens 2,000 yards.
