One Reason Why Central Connecticut Will Win

The Syracuse defense returns with a whole slew of veteran tacklers, but can anyone stop the run? The Orange might have the O, but they still have to prove they can play a little D.

After a lousy 2-9 season, the Blue Devils have a decent offense returning with a good pair of receivers in Joey Fields and K.J. Smith to to make the passing game work. But it’s the ground game that has to be tested out right away with a quick pair of backs in Cameron Nash and Enyce Walker needing to test out the Syracuse front line.

Can Syracuse start to get behind the line? Game the run D prove that it’s any better after a disastrous end to last year? Central Connecticut will give it a try.

One Reason Why Syracuse Will Win

Yes, the Blue Devils should be in for a better season overall, but they still have to prove they can stop someone from throwing a forward pass.

They were 117th in the FCS last year in pass efficiency defense, giving up 25 touchdowns and coming up with just seven picks.

While there are concerns about QB Eric Dungey and whether or not he can hold up after suffering concussion problems last year, he should be able to bomb away at will with Ervin Phillips and Steve Ishmael about to have huge games.

The Syracuse offense will do whatever it wants to.

What’s Going To Happen

Syracuse will have a whole lot of fun.

This is the fourth year in a row the Orange gets an FCS team to start the season, and they should be able to crank it up like they did in a 33-7 win over Colgate to kick off last year, and a 47-0 victory to beat Rhode Island in 2015.

It’ll be target practice time for Dungey.
