Oregon (0-0) vs. Southern Utah (0-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Southern Utah Will Win
The Thunderbirds had a nice offense last year with a good enough balance to finish with a winning season. This year, they’ve got a potentially better defense, too.
There’s talent, all-star ability up front, and a few dangerous playmakers who can get into the backfield. The front seven is just tough enough, and just productive enough to keep most quick ground games in check.
Welcome to what’s going to be the ultimate quick ground game.
The Thunderbird offense should be fine against a leaky Duck D that still needs time as it adjust to a 3-4 alignment. If the defense can do its part just a little bit, this could be relatively close.
That’s not to say Southern Utah will stop Oregon cold, but there’s a chance the D holds up a whole lot better than expected.
One Reason Why Oregon Will Win
The Oregon offense might just be more unstoppable than normal.
There won’t be any major changes to an attack that was fine last season – it was the defense that was the problem.
This year, the Oregon O line is fantastic, Royce Freeman leads a loaded group of backs, and this should be a fun game of target practice for Justin Hebert to tune up for Nebraska.
Yeah, the defense still isn’t going to be a rock. Whatever – Oregon, with this coaching staff and the talent in place, might score 50 walking out of the tunnel.
What’s Going To Happen
The Oregon defense will still be concerning as Southern Utah comes up with a decent day on the ground, but the offense will explode from the start. It’ll be the opener the program needs, but it’s Southern Utah. Anything less than a total wipeout will be a wee bit alarming.
