What can the Warriors’ star runner do with a larger workload?
Last year’s Mountain West will be remembered for its litany of star running backs, which made it easy to overlook just how many good runners there were. This includes the next entrant in our list of the conference’s 50 best football players.
Diocemy Saint Juste stabilized the Warriors running game by emerging as its number one option, finishing 2016 with 1,006 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His 6.1 yards per carry were not only equal to that of San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey (and better than, among others, Brian Hill and James Butler), it was the most significant reason Hawaii finished with their best YPC average since 2010.
With the departures of Paul Harris and Steven Lakalaka, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Saint Juste challenge for the school’s single-season rushing record (1,498 yards, Travis Sims, 1992).
