2017 CFN Preview | Missouri Preview

With the SEC season starting up next week against South Carolina – and with the first four games at home – the Tigers need to start out how. After a dud of a season defensively, this is when they have to show this is a new year, new team, new expectations – or just blow out Missouri State team and have a whole lot of fun.

It’s an experienced Bears team with 18 starters returning coming off a 4-7 season. The receivers are strong, and there’s hope for a solid season in the Missouri Valley Conference, but if this goes like it’s supposed to, it’s target practice time for Mizzou.

One Reason Why Missouri State Will Win

The Bears might not have the talent to keep up the pace, and they might not be coming off a huge season throwing the ball, but with Deion Holliman and Malik Earl returning, they have dangers weapons for the Tigers to worry about. Earl led the team with 41 catches averaging over 13 yards per grab, while Holliman is a big-time return man who scored both as a punt and kick returner.

One Reason Why Missouri Will Win

It’s time to get the ground game into a lather.

Yeah, Drew Lock and the passing game should be fine all season long, but with all the starters back up front, and a deep and versatile group of backs to work around, it’s time to blast away.

Missouri State might be experienced on the defensive front, but it got gouged throughout last year, allowing five yards per carry. Expect the Tiger speed backs to hit plenty of home runs.

What’s Going To Happen

Welcome to the confidence boost. Whether it’s real or not, the Tigers should look the part on both sides the ball. The offense will do whatever it wants, but at least for this week, the defense will be back to 2015 form. Expect the pass rush to roll early and often.
