One Reason Why Bethune-Cookman Will Win

The run defense wasn’t miserable last season, and it could be a whole lot better right away.

It might have been an ugly 4-6 season overall for the Wildcats, but injuries played a huge role in the problems with way too much inconsistency and not enough production from an offense that couldn’t find any pop.

No, the defense didn’t do enough, either – especially behind the line – but the line held up reasonably well.

Not great, but again, reasonably well.

If there’s any prayer of keeping this from blowing up into a Miami scrimmage, the Wildcats have to own the defensive front against a Hurricane line that’s retooling. With four new starters, the offensive line is the one slight concern – but that’s why you schedule Bethune-Cookman to start a season.

One Reason Why Miami Will Win

Get ready for the Malik Rosier show.

Was it going to be superstar recruit N’Kosi Perry under center, or maybe big bomber Evan Shirreffs? It’s Rosier, the junior with the upside to be a little bit of everything for the offense – including having the headiness of an upperclassman.

Miami will do whatever it wants on defense – Bethune-Cookman will be fortunate to gain more than 150 yards – but the spotlight is on Rosier. If he’s not sharp, the quarterback controversy will kick back up.

He’ll be fantastic.

Expect a focused effort from an offense that wants to make a statement right away with Florida State coming up in a few weeks.

What’s Going To Happen

Miami will call off the dogs in the third quarter and get all the young backups in.

There’s no reasonable hope for Bethune-Cookman to make this a game for more than a few drives, but this is an improved squad that could come up with a few scores in the second half once everything has been decided.

Rosier will do his part. The Miami will look the part. And the game will be nothing more than a fun exercise.
