Chason Virigl Is The Starter For Fresno State
Virgil gets the nod in the home opener against Incarnate Word
Chason Virgil gets the start this week.
Fresno State opens up its season this weekend taking on Incarnate Word at home this Saturday and to the surprise of no one head coach Jeff Tedford announced that Chason Virgil is the starting quarterback, according to the Fresno Bee.
The third-year sophomore played in 10 games last year with so numbers. He only completed 51 percent of his passes for 2,021 yards and had 13 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
Virgil had to win the job with Tedford now as head coach during spring and fall camps. In spring, Virgil beat out junior college transfer Jorge Reyna and then in the fall he had a late challenger in Oregon State transfer Marcus McMaryion who came to Fresno after camp started.
Tedford said there is a chance that both McMaryion and Reyna both could see reps in the season opener.
“He could see time, for sure,” Tedford said. “But, again, that depends on how the week goes and that kind of thing, how the game plan goes and how the game progresses and so on and so forth.”
