MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons and the Big 12 Conference have announced the 2017-18 men’s basketball schedule.

WVU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany, against Texas A&M in the Armed Forces Classic on ESPN, marking the first college basketball game of the season.

In the Big 12/SEC Challenge, Kentucky will make just its third visit to Morgantown and first since 1970, while Virginia will make its first visit to the WVU Coliseum since 1985.

Even though the television schedule is incomplete and additional games are expected to be televised nationally, the Mountaineers are already slated for 23 regular season games on national television, including three on ESPN’s Big Monday (Kansas, at Oklahoma, at TCU) and at home vs. Texas on CBS.

The Backyard Brawl returns for the first time since the 2012 season when the Mountaineers travel to Pitt on Saturday, Dec. 9. WVU and Pitt will play a non-conference game for the first time since 1994.

WVU will play three games in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, over Thanksgiving in the AdvoCare Invitational. WVU opens against Marist on Thanksgiving and will play either Nebraska or UCF a day later. The Mountaineers will close out the tournament against either St. John’s, Oregon State, Missouri or Long Beach State on Sunday, Nov. 26.

The Mountaineers will play 18 season games at home, with every Big 12 team visiting Morgantown. In addition to conference play, American, Morgan State, Long Beach State, NJIT, Virginia, Coppin State, Fordham, Kentucky and Wheeling Jesuit (exhibition) will play at the WVU Coliseum.

“We are excited to open the college basketball season in Germany, having Virginia and Kentucky come to the Coliseum for the first time in years, spending Thanksgiving in Florida and renewing the Backyard Brawl in non-conference action,” coach Bob Huggins said. “In conference play, we have a lot of Saturday-Monday games that will help prepare us for the postseason. Once again, we have a bunch of games (23) on national television, and Pitt and Kentucky will make at least 25 of our 31 games on national television. This is obviously a tough schedule, but it’s a schedule that will once again showcase our basketball program, our University and the great state of West Virginia.”

WVU will play its first Big 12 game at Oklahoma State on Dec. 29 and will conclude the Big 12 schedule at Texas on March 3. WVU opens Big 12 play at home vs. Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The rest of the game times and complete television schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change for television.
