The main highlight of UNLV’s schedule is the showdown against Arizona on December 2nd. The game will be played in Vegas at the Thomas & Mack, with potential of the visiting team holding the title as the top-ranked team in America.
The Wildcats expect to be a top three team in most pre-season polls. UNLV has taken three of the last five against Arizona, including a 71-67 victory over the #3-ranked Wildcats on December 23, 2014 in Las Vegas.
UNLV will also participate in the MGM Resorts Main Event, which includes games in Las Vegas against Prairie View A&M, Eastern Washington, Rice, and either Ole Miss or Utah. All five teams missed the NCAA Tournament this past season.
In the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge, the Rebs will head to the midwest to take on Northern Iowa. The UNI Panthers have punched tournament bids in two of the last three seasons, and expect to be a factor in the MVC again this season.
The final noteworthy game will take place on December 9th against Illinois. Coming off a 20-win campaign, the Fighting Illini welcome former Oklahoma State and Stephen F. Austin head coach Brad Underwood.
In all, UNLV will play two games away from Las Vegas during the non-conference portion of the 2017-18 schedule. Just one of the 14 potential non-conference opponents made the NCAA Tournament last season, the Arizona Wildcats.
UNLV will begin league play on December 30th at the Thomas & Mack Center against Boise State.
