Does the Mountain West have another Rashard Higgins in its midst? Possibly.
Watchlist season rolls on with the Biletnikoff Award and, this year, it isn’t inconceivable the Mountain West could find itself another finalist, as Higgins was in 2014.
Colorado State receiver Michael Gallup emerged as the best in the conference once the Rams got their quarterback situation settled, finishing second in catches (76), tied for second in receiving yards (1,272), and tied for first in receiving touchdowns (14). He saved his best for last, as well, catching 40 passes in CSU’s last five games and positioning the Rams for a memorable 2017.
Fresno State’s Keesean Johnson could take a big step forward in year one of the Jeff Tedford era after improving across the board as a sophomore last fall. Johnson led the Bulldogs with 66 catches, 713 yards and six touchdowns.
Boise State’s Cedrick Wilson played last year as one of the conference’s premier big-play threats, tallying 1,129 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 56 catches, finishing as just one of four Mountain West receivers with an average of 20 yards per catch.
Last year’s Biletnikoff Award winner was Oklahoma’s Dede Westbrook.
