It will take a special season to win the Walter Camp, but don’t put it past any of these three.
The last of the major college football awards released its watch list this morning, and the Walter Camp Award, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding player, has a few names from the Mountain West which have popped up again and again during this watch list season.
Wyoming’s Josh Allen, Boise State’s Brett Rypien and San Diego State’s Rashaad Penny all made the cut. Allen and Rypien have already been named to the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Award lists in the last couple of weeks after finishing first and second in the Mountain West in total offense.
Penny, meanwhile, made an appearance on the Paul Hornung Award watch list. As a junior in 2016, he finished fourth in the Mountain West by averaging 7.5 yards per carry, fifth with 16 total touchdowns and sixth with 1,866 all-purpose yards. With a heavier workload this fall, he’ll challenge for the conference’s rushing crown.
Last year, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson won the honor.
