Welcome to the first look and picks for the opening week games of the 2017 college football season. These quick thoughts are being done in early June, with the real Fearless Prediction and expanded breakdown coming in August.
Early June First Thought: What’s Going To Happen?
Who likes passing games? You do.
Who likes lots of points? Of course, you do.
Who likes wild shootout with plenty of big plays and big stats? All hands raised.
Tulsa was fourth in the nation last season in total offense, while Oklahoma State was 14th. However, this is a different Tulsa team and it might be an even better OSU squad.
The Golden Hurricane lose QB Dane Evans, along with the leading rusher and top top two receivers, but there’s more than enough firepower for another massive year.
This might not be the statistical monster of 2016, but it’ll still put up big numbers, and it should still be able to put up a fight against a mediocre Cowboy secondary.
But Mason Rudolph and the offense should make up for any concerns.
The Oklahoma State attack is loaded with a great line, a better receiving corps, and an NFL franchise passer in Rudolph. However, even for an O that’ll average well over 40 points per game, it’ll have to contend with a terrific Tulsa pass rush that’ll win its share of battles.
This should be a back-and-forth fight throughout the first half, but Rudolph and the Cowboys will show why they’ll be in the College Football Playoff mix.
