Just how good is Old Dominion? Is this a team good enough to really and truly challenge for the Conference USA title?
The Monarchs are unbeaten in conference play, and with a weak FIU team leading the division at the moment, a win over WKU would go a long, long way to being one of the nation’s most shocking division leaders this late in the season.
Granted, the schedule has been easy over the last three weeks – beating UTSA, Charlotte and UMass – with the offense cranking up the production with good balance and almost no mistakes.
So far this year, ODU has turned the ball over just four times, and with two of the mistakes coming in the blowout win over Charlotte. The Monarchs have yet to lose the turnover margin battle.
But here’s the problem. The Monarchs haven’t dealt with a passing game like it’s about to face.
After a thrilling double overtime win over Middle Tennessee – following a heartbreaking loss in a wild comeback attempt against Louisiana Tech – the Hilltoppers won’t have much of a problem.
Taywan Taylor is coming off a season-high 12 catches for 197 yards and a score, and now he’ll make up for his worst yardage performance of the year last season catching five passes for just 29 yards in the blowout over ODU – he’ll go off.
