It was one of the best games of last year – a WKU win in a shootout over the Bulldogs – but both teams went through some major changes and both teams continue to roll.
The WKU passing game isn’t slowing down, but it helps to play teams like Houston Baptist. The Mike White to Taywan Taylor connection has been among the nation’s most effective, with Taylor cranking out an All-America-caliber season so far with four 100-yard days in in the first five games, including a 121-yard day against Alabama.
Can the miserable Louisiana Tech secondary come up with enough stops to stay alive?
Granted, the stats are skewed by facing Texas Tech and Middle Tennessee, but both of those teams can throw, and the Bulldogs lost both battles.
But the Bulldogs can chuck it, too.
QB Ryan Higgins has been sensational, hitting 64% of his passes with 12 touchdown passes and two picks, and he’s going to keep the pressure on the Hilltopper secondary all game long.
And that’s going to be the difference.
For all the big pass plays and for all the big numbers, WKU’s offense stalls way too often. There are too many penalties and too many missed opportunities, while Louisiana Tech is great at keeping things moving and hits 50% of its third down chances.
With lots of wild mood swings, and plenty of big pass plays, this is going to be a blast.
It’ll be even more fun at home for Bulldogs.
