Bowl and Conference Implications
Western Kentucky will win the East division and play Louisiana Tech for the Conference USA title with a victory or an Old Dominion loss to FIU. Marshall can avoid finishing at the bottom of the East with a win.
What’s Going To Happen?
Can the Hilltoppers hit the layup?
Thanks to the win over Old Dominion in early November, WKU has the chance to play for the Conference USA title, but it has to deal with a Marshall team in its home finale and looking to restore the magic of a few weeks ago when it shocked Middle Tennessee.
It’s been a disastrous season for a Thundering Herd team that was supposed to be coming into this weekend with the East title potentially on their plate. However, there have been some positive moments over the second half of the season offensively.
The offense continues to be another story.
Takeaways were the key in the 42-17 shocker against the Blue Raiders, but Marshall has managed just 14 points three of the last four games with no ground game and not enough of a passing attack to pick up the slack.
Can the Herd possible hold up against the WKU passing game? Mike White continues to be a 300-yard passing machine – hitting the mark in five of the last six games with no picks in the last three weeks. He’s not going to give away the mistakes Marshall will need, while the WKU run defense will keep the Herd to under 100 rushing yards.
Marshall won’t be able to throw to keep up, even at home.
