No matter how this shakes out, it might just be the most interesting game – or the most interesting result – of the weekend.

West Virginia continues to be the forgotten team in the College Football Playoff chase with a No. 16 ranking, but it still has just one loss, and it still has the chance for a Big 12 championship by winning out and getting an extra Oklahoma State loss.

Can the Mountaineers really and truly get into the CFP by going 11-1 with a conference championship? It might be tough, but yeah, they can at least get really, really close.

Meanwhile, Texas just won’t go away.

It’s not in the Big 12 title hunt, and it just needs one more win to go bowling – Kansas is up next week – but it’s more than just getting to six wins at this point. With wins over Baylor and Texas Tech, and with three wins in the last four, the program is starting to look like its on the right track. The Charlie Strong hot seat talk has quieted down, the team has been more interesting, and with six of the nine games decided by a touchdown or less, the games have been fun.

How is this happening? The defense has gotten a wee bit better – forgetting the stats, the secondary really is starting to make a few more plays – and D’Onta Foreman has started to look like a possible Heisman candidate.

The junior running back has rushed for 100 yards or more in every game but the date against UTEP – he missed that hurt – and he’s been able to kick it in at just the right time, running for 250 yards and two scores against Baylor, and 341 yards and three touchdowns last week in a breathtaking performance against Texas Tech.

The West Virginia defensive from has been fantastic all year, and it hasn’t allowed most than 150 rushing yards in any of the last five games. There’s no pass rush, there aren’t enough plays behind the lines, and there have been breakdowns at times, but overall, the D has gotten the job done as long as the offense isn’t turning the ball over. That’s what the Longhorns have to change.

One of the biggest keys to the Texas season has been the improvement in takeaways, coming up with 13 in the last five games after getting just one in the first four. But it’s not going to happen as West Virginia won’t make the key mistakes to lose on the road.

Foreman will be Foreman, but Mountaineer QB Skyler Howard will have a maddeningly efficient and effective day, hitting on third down play after third down play to keep drives going. It’ll come down to a late Longhorn drive that’ll stall in West Virginia territory.

And it really will be one of Saturday’s most interesting games.

*To be honest, it looks like yet another brutally dull sci-fi thing, but it’s 100%, so you’re supposed to see it or else.
