This is just for fun now that Georgia Tech became bowl eligible by knocking Virginia Tech out of the hunt for the College Football Playoff, but the Paul Johnson option attack is always worth the price of admission.
Justin Thomas is expected to be back after missing last week’s win, not that he was missed with Matthew Jordan taking over and running for 121 yards and two scores. But now the devastating ground game has its leader back.
The Yellow Jackets are humming at just the right time, hitting the 300-yard mark on the ground three games in a row, and now it’s about to make it four.
Virginia’s defensive front has been okay, but it’s not a killer. It was able to keep Louisville under relative wraps, but it’s been getting picked at and moved on way too easily at times during the five-game losing streak.
The bigger issue? Turnovers. The Cavaliers couldn’t hang on to the ball against Miami, putting it on the ground four times in last week’s blowout loss. They’re a -5 in turnover margin over the last two games. Combine that with an inability to keep the chains moving, and that spells disaster against a Georgia Tech team that doesn’t shoot itself in the foot and has a habit of going on long, sustained marches.
Virginia will never have th ball.
