Virginia Tech (6-2) vs. Duke (3-5) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 5
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Wallace Wade Stadium, Durham, NC
Duke can’t seem to catch much of a break. The team’s Achilles’ heel from the start of the season has been its Achilles’ heel.
First it lost its starting quarterback for the season, before it all started, when Thomas Sirk tore his Achilles tendon, and now running back is out for the year with the same problem after a celebration.
The Blue Devils need all the talent they can get against a Virginia Tech team blazing towards a shot at the ACC championship.
No. 19 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, there’s still time for the Hokies to make a move and be in the thick of the chase for the final four by winning out, but they’ve got to look good doing it.
Notre Dame might not be Notre Dame, but it’s still a high-profile road game that’ll generate plenty of national attention if Virginia Tech wins the next two games against Duke and Georgia Tech, looking like the sure-thing Coastal champ.
But there can’t be a slip against Duke.
The Virginia Tech passing game should be efficient enough and effective enough to take advantage of several key third down chances, while the defense will put the clamps down on a Blue Devil attack that’ll survive the loss of Duncan, but won’t have enough pop to pull off the upset.
This is when Virginia Tech starts its big run through November.
