It’s danger time for Vanderbilt after losing in heartbreaking fashion to South Carolina in the SEC season opener. The Commodores didn’t show any improvement on offense to go along with its still-good D, but they’re going to have to open it up a bit this week or the season will all but be over before it has a chance to get going.
Middle Tennessee got its practice in beating Alabama A&M 55-0, and now it’s got a shot to prove that it’s about to be a major player in the Conference USA race. Southern Miss showed off last week against Kentucky, and now it’s the Blue Raiders’ turn.
QB Brent Stockstill completed 30-of-36 passes for 329 yards and five scores with a pick, but he wasn’t under any pressure.
Vandy only came up with one sack last week, and now it has to keep the Blue Raider passing game from finding any sort of an early groove. That’ll happen, but the Commodore offense still won’t be able to do enough to take advantage of a good day from the D.
Ralph Webb will run for over 100 yards and the Commodores will have their chances to take over and put it away, but they’ll settle for a few too many field goals, keeping the door open for Stockstill to win it on the final drive.
