South Carolina is still going to be in the equation, but for all intents and purposes, this is for the honor of finishing at the bottom of the SEC East.
Can Vanderbilt’s defense rise up like it did against Florida – only with a little bit of help from the offense?
Can the Kentucky offense come up with just enough pop with the running game to make the punchless Commodore attack press?
Vanderbilt was just plain sad trying to do anything to take advantage of the opportunities against the Gators, and now it needs more from QB Kyle Shurmur after getting hit in the eye and missing a little time.
Rocky all season long – completing just 9-of-25 passes for 82 yards with a pick against the Gators – last year he was okay in the win over UK with 166 yards and two touchdown passes. If he can’t be terrific this week against a bad Wildcat secondary that’s getting roasted by anyone who tries to throw, then there’s an even bigger problem with the Commodore offense that won’t be fixed this year.
The Wildcats have to stop giving the ball away. It’s given up the ball at least twice in all five games and lost the turnover margin in the last four – it hasn’t yet been on the right side. And that’s going to make all the difference.
Vanderbilt needs all the help it can get, and the Wildcat offense will provide it with three key giveaways to offset an otherwise okay performance from a team that desperately needs to find something positive again.
