UTSA (2-3) vs. Rice (0-5) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 15
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Rice Stadium, Houston, TX
Network: beIN Sports
With an offensive explosion against Southern Miss in a stunning 55-32 win, UTSA has made a bowl bid possible. But to get there, it needs a road win over a struggling Rice team that’s not having any fun.
The Roadrunners ripped up the same Golden Eagle team that blasted Rice two weeks ago in a 44-28 victory that continued the ugly slide.
The Owls have the nation’s worst defense, hurt mostly be the nation’s second-worst pass defense, but can UTSA keep its own momentum going? Last week against USM, Dalton Sturm was deadly accurate, hitting 10-of-12 passes for 193 yards and a score, while Jalen Rhodes took off for 165 yards and three touchdowns.
Rice is way overdue for something positive, and it really does have a few decent offensive weapons to finally end the winless start, but the Roadrunners are playing well enough defensively to keep the Owl O from finally getting moving, especially through the air.
Led by freshman tackling machine Josiah Tauaefa, the Roadrunners will control the game on the defensive front, get the win, and be one of the biggest surprises halfway through the season.
