UTEP (3-7) vs. Rice (2-8) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 19
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Rice Stadium, Houston, TX
If this isn’t a battle for the worst team in college football, it’s not all that far off.
UTEP still has a shot to finish with a decent record and a good look, needing to beat Rice this week and North Texas next week, and it needs to keep showing off the offense that’s been able to run Aaron Jones into a terrific season.
The junior has cranked out close to 1,400 yards and 13 scores, averaging over seven yards per pop for an attack that needs him to control everything.
The Rice run defense should comply with a front line that gets destroyed for 217 yards per game and is even worse against teams that can throw. The Owls have the nation’s least-efficient pass defense, but UTEP doesn’t have enough of an air show to take advantage.
It’s all Aaron Jones.
Rice will key on him, but it has to build off the shocking comeback win over Charlotte to get its own offense going. The Owls can put up yards, and they’ll move the chains, but there’s no explosion to make up for the defense.
UTEP might be on the road to the other side of the state, but it’ll get that ground game going just enough to offset a tough outing from its own run defense that’ll give up way to many long drives.
Both teams are equally awful – it’ll make for a fun game.
