UTEP (1-5) vs. UTSA (3-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Is UTSA really and truly in the hunt for a bowl game? After shocking Southern Miss and winning two straight, yeah, the Roadrunners with a win over UTEP and with winnable home games against North Texas and Charlotte ahead, would actually get a 13th game.
They’re throwing well, there’s better balance to the offense, and the defense has been relatively timely, even if it’s not a rock.
And then there’s UTEP.
A total disaster on offense, the Miners can’t seem to find anything that consistently works, scoring seven points in three of the last five games and struggling and sputtering against FIU two weeks ago.
Aaron Jones is the one major positive for the Miners, averaging over seven yards per pop with 733 yards on the year, but can he start getting the ball more? Can he be the different-maker who can change by himself against a suspect defensive front?
Maybe, but the rest of the offense won’t be able to do enough once the Roadrunners get up early.
UTSA QB Dalton Sturm is just accurate enough and just careful enough to not give the Miners the breaks they’ll need to pull off the road win to turn their season around. Meanwhile, UTSA’s year will look like it’s just getting rolling.
