Utah (4-1) vs. Arizona (2-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 8
Game Time: 9:00 pm
Venue: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT
Utah is still knee-deep in the Pac-12 title chase after a stunning loss to Cal – amazingly, the Bears won by being more physical – but it can’t afford a loss at home to a reeling Arizona team.
The Wildcats aren’t necessarily a mess, but they’re just not healthy.
It’s bad enough to not have Anu Solomon in one piece, but backup quarterback Brandon Dawkins – who almost beat Washington all by himself – is banged up with a rib problem.
That means it’ll likely be freshman Khalil Tate being thrown to the Utes with the season probably on the line. Throw in the ankle injury to star RB Nick Wilson – among a slew of other starters – and it’s all being held together with duct tape and prayers.
The Utes don’t have any room for worrying about the Cats’ problems with three road games in the next four – and four in the final six – to close things out. As always, this is a tough, hard-nosed team that’s learning how to battle in close games with the BYU, USC and Cal games all coming down to the final moments.
Expect the Ute defense to not take any pity on the Wildcat running game that continues to work okay, but fell flat last week against UCLA. Holding the ball for over 36 minutes per game, Utah will use its own ground game and great punting to keep Arizona from ever getting any sort of control on the road.
