Can UNLV come up with any semblance of positive consistency? Just when it seems like it’s time to write off the Rebels, they roar with a stunning win over Hawaii on the road. Just when it seems like they’re ready to go on a run, they can’t stop Colorado State.
They have to win three of their last four games to go bowling, and a road game at Boise State is coming up soon, so there’s no margin for error in San Jose.
The Spartans have lost five of their last six game, hurt mostly by an offense that doesn’t have its normal pop and excitement, and a defense that can’t stop the run, even a little bit.
The offensive line can’t keep anyone from getting into their backfield, allowing a ridiculous 74 tackles for loss and 38 sacks, but on the plus side for them, UNLV doesn’t have much of a pass rush.
However, the Rebel O line isn’t allowing anyone to get behind the line, giving up a wee four sacks on the season.
UNLV needs the passing game to simply be okay, and that’s going to happen. This hasn’t been an efficient air show, but the wildly inconsistent Dalton Sneed should do just enough – helped by a decent day from the ground game – to pull off the road win it needs to have to keep the season alive.
