UCLA vs. UNLV Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 10th
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
Just how quickly can UCLA rebound from the heartbreaker at Texas A&M?
The Bruins came close to sneaking out with a win despite an awful game outside of a late run, and now it’s time to sharpen up before going on the road to face BYU and following up against Stanford.
But UNLV might be more than just a tune-up team now.
Blowing out Jackson State isn’t all that impressive, but UNLV is a program on the rise with a hot head coach in Tony Sanchez, and a great-looking quarterback in Johnny Stanton, the Nebraska transfer who hit 10-of-12 passes for 217 yards and three scores last week, looking the part of a leader and potential statistical star. He’s not better than Josh Rosen, but he’ll have to come up with a gem to keep the Rebels in the game.
UCLA wasn’t good against Texas A&M, with the new, supposedly physical style falling flat on both sides of the ball, but the team still almost pulled off a win.
Can the Bruins care enough to play up to their talent level against UNLV? They won’t have to, but they still won’t be in midseason form, allowing the Rebels to be just good enough to make this a battle into the second half. And then the avalanche will come, making the final score look worse than the performances.
