UCF (3-2) vs. Temple (3-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 15
Game Time: 7:30 pm
Venue: Bright House Networks Stadium, Orlando, FL
The loser of this isn’t out of the hunt for the East title with each team still getting to play South Florida – but the Bulls are terrific. There are bigger overall issues potentially at play, though.
Can UCF keep its coach? With Oregon struggling so much, Scott Frost will be the head of most lists being created of coaches with the ability to take over the Ducks and make them great again, but first, he has to keep the production going with a UCF team that’s getting it done on defense, not offense.
The Knights have a good, solid running game, but it’s been the defense that rose up over the first half of the season, including two wins over FIU and East Carolina on the road that seemed like they might go the other way this offseason.
But Temple is still pretty good, too.
The Owls don’t have the defense of last year, but it’s still solid, still great against the pass, and still just tough enough up front to give the UCF running game a long day. Can the passing attack do enough to overcome a mediocre ground attack.
The Owls and Philip Walker bombed away 59 times last week for 445 yards and two score to keep up the pace in a loss to Memphis, while UCF was hit hard by East Carolina, allowing 488 yards and three scores, but with three picks.
And UCF won its game, while Temple lost its battle.
The Knights will crank up the defense at home and keep down the Owl offense. The pass defense will be far better than it was against ECU, while the UCF ground game will do just enough to crank out a few key long drives late.
