UCF (3-3) vs. Connecticut (3-4) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Rentschler Field, East Hartford, CT
It’s bowl elimination time for the loser, with UCF getting stunned by Temple in the final moments to ruin a terrific run for a few weeks. Now Scott Frost’s team has to go on the road for two more weeks with Houston coming up next, but it’s got three home games to follow.
Win this, and the Knights are good enough to take two of the three in Orlando – and the turnaround will be complete before the Frost-to-Oregon talk becomes deafening. But first, the offense has to crank it back up after hitting FIU and East Carolina for 100 points in the two weeks, while the defense that’s been terrific has to overcome the collapse to the Owls.
The UConn offense isn’t exploding, either, but the defense went bye-bye on the road in blowout losses to Houston and USF, giving up 42 points in each game. The defensive front will stop the UCF ground game that hit a brick wall last week against Temple – after doing a nice job throughout the year – and with no deep passing game to count on.
But as good as the Huskies have been defensively, the UCF defensive front has been even better, especially on third downs. UConn won’t go on any long drives or marches as the Knights grind out a tough, hard-nosed win.
