Troy (8-2) vs. Texas State (2-8) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 26
Game Time: 4:00 pm
Venue: Bobcat Stadium, San Marcos, TX
Bowl and Conference Implications
Troy can still win the Sun Belt title outright by beating Texas State and Georgia Southern and getting two Arkansas State losses and an Appalachian State loss. If it wins out and if Arkansas State loses one game, Troy will at least own a share of the Sun Belt title. Texas State could escape the Sun Belt basement with wins over South Alabama and Arkansas State.
What’s Going To Happen?
How fast can Troy bounce back?
The Trojans had the Sun Belt all there for the taking, but they couldn’t handle Arkansas State last week as the offense fell flat in a 35-3 loss to lose control of the conference championship race. Even so, they’ve been fantastic all year, and they’re off to a bowl in a breakthrough season.
The offense has been balanced when it’s had to be, and the defense has been among the best in the nation against the run. If it can gear up the intensity on the road, and if the team is past the loss to the Red Wolves, they shouldn’t have a problem against a miserable Bobcat team looking for something positive.
Texas State has lost six straight, getting obliterated over the last four games by a combined score of 159-37.
The defense is getting destroyed by anything anyone wants to try, having the biggest problem against decent running teams, allowing 236 yards or more in four of the last five games and allowing over five yards per pop on the season.
Troy will fire at will.
The defense shouldn’t have any issues, while the offense will crank up the passing game from the start in a breezy, easy victory.
