Texas Tech (3-4) vs. TCU (4-3) Prediction

Just turn off your brain and enjoy this for what it’s going to be.

It’s not going to be the ridiculous 66-59 Oklahoma-Texas Tech shootout of last week, but it’ll be a whole lot of passing fun between two teams going absolutely nowhere.

It’s condition critical time for a Texas Tech team on a three-game losing streak and four of its final five games away from Lubbock. Yeah, Patrick Mahomes and the passing game are two tons of fun, but they’re not remotely close to stopping anyone on defense.

How ridiculous was Mahomes last week? He made the 504-yard passing day against Kansas State look like a light workout.

All he did was wing it around the yard 88 times for 734 yards and five touchdowns against Oklahoma – to go along with 85 rushing yards and two scores – and lost, because his defense gave up 545 yards and seven touchdowns to Baker Mayfield.

Meanwhile, Kenny Hill and the TCU didn’t get on the plane to West Virginia after two weeks off, sputtering and coughing in a puzzling 34-10 loss. Forget about any dreams of winning the Big 12 title – the defense is too soft and the offense not consistent enough – but this might be a must-win to have any real hope of going bowling.

The Horned Frog secondary has been shockingly bad – it’s not coming up with any big plays – but the team stayed alive in the loss to Oklahoma and should’ve beaten Arkansas.

This is a 5-2 team living with a 4-3 record.

But that all changes this week.

TCU will give up 400 yards to Mahomes as he’s finishing up his pregame meal, but Hill will do his part with his fourth 400-yard passing game of the season. The Horned Frogs will be more explosive, while the Red Raiders will dink and dunk too often.

It won’t quite be last-team-with-ball wins – but TCU will need a full four quarters to survive.

Final Score: TCU 52, Texas Tech 40

Line: TCU -8.5, o/u: 86.5
