Texas Tech was fantastic in its opening week blowout, but Arizona State is a slight step up in competition. Check out the Texas Tech vs. Arizona State fearless prediction and game preview.
Texas Tech vs. Arizona State Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 10th
Game Time: 10:00 pm
Venue: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, AZ
Why Texas Tech Will Win
Does Arizona State really have the pop to outgun the Red Raiders?
The Sun Devil offense put up points without a problem against Northern Arizona to start the season, but the passing game was just okay in the 44-13 win. Manny Wilkins was solid, completing 20-of-27 passes for 180 yards, but the O wasn’t too explosive and he threw a pick with no touchdown passes.
This is a good attack that’ll soon have its unstoppable moments, and the running game should settle things down if Texas Tech gets any sort of momentum, but this might not be a bombs away sort of team that can hang 55 on the board – at least not yet.
But if ASU’s offense is ready for primetime and can handle the track meet – so? Texas Tech will keep on firing.
Northern Arizona had no problems whatsoever throwing at will on the Sun Devils,
Case Cookus threw for 369 yards and a score for NAU last week, which is a horrible, horrible sign considering Patrick Mahomes and Nic Shimonek combined for 633 yards and five scores for the Red Raiders against Stephen F. Austin
Why Arizona State Will Win
Let’s not go off declaring that Texas Tech’s defense is the new Alabama quite yet.
There’s experience, and the line should be able to get into the backfield at times, but the Red Raiders are going to give up passing yards in chunks – always.
Granted, SFA had to throw to try doing something to keep up the pace, but the Lumberjacks bombed away for 312 yards and kept on firing.
The ASU defense should be better than the ASU offense over the first part of the season, and the O might not be quite there yet – or at least as effective as it’ll be in a few weeks – but this is still Texas Tech. There are over 500 yards of total offense there to be had by the Sun Devils.
Wilkins led the team with 89 rushing yards last week, and Demario Richard got bottled up a bit too often, but the running game should roll. No, the offense might not be finely-tuned quite yet, but if Wilkins plays well, the Sun Devils will keep up the pace.
What’s Going To Happen?
Lots of offense, lots of big plays, and lots and lots of fun. Arizona State won’t have the passing attack to get behind, but it’ll run well and should own the clock just enough to overcome a suddenly-shaky secondary. Being at home at night will matter in a last-team-with-ball-wins sort of game.
