Why Texas A&M Will Win
Why is this working? Why is this Texas A&M team so good, so solid, and 4-0? It’s steady, along with occasionally being sensational.
The defense has been terrific, with a defining moment being the goal line stand against Arkansas that turned the game around and showed just how nasty the Aggies could really be.
The secondary gives up yards, but it’s not getting torched. The run defense has been sound enough, and it’s been able to keep the big plays to a minimum. Against the mediocre – to be nice – South Carolina offense, the Aggie defense should be able to tee off into the backfield with no worries whatsoever about the passing attack. The Gamecocks don’t have one.
The biggest key has been Trevor Knight, the steady, solid veteran who also showed a killer instinct against the Hogs with 157 rushing yards and two scores. He hasn’t thrown an interception in the two SEC games with 225 passing yards or more in all four games. As long as he’s not turning the ball over, A&M will be fine.
Why South Carolina Will Win
It’s just the second home game this year for the Gamecocks and it’s the first SEC game for Will Muschamp in Columbia. Throw in the desperation factor after losing to Kentucky on the road last week, and this should be a more dangerous team. At least that’s the hope for the punchless offense.
It’s a Will Muschamp team, which means it’s going to be a fight to get third downs, it’ll be a relatively low-scoring slugfest, and it’ll be physical. If this comes down to home run-hitting plays, forget it.
+6 in turnover margin over the last two games and with no turnovers, the defensive intensity has been cranked up while the offense isn’t screwing up. As long as it can keep the chains moving, it’ll be doing the job.
As good as the Texas A&M’s defense has been, it’s giving up a ton of first downs while the offense isn’t bleeding the clock. USC isn’t owning the time of possession, either, but this might be the chance to do it.
What’s Going To Happen?
A&M has handled adversity without a problem. The UCLA finish, the Arkansas fight for three quarters – the team is used to having to deal with tough situations.
Kentucky wasn’t able to blow up offensively on the Gamecocks, but Boom Williams tore off a few big runs and this week that’ll be Trayveon Williams. A few big plays from the Aggies will put this out of reach for a Gamecock offense that can’t put points on the board.
