Why Tennessee Will Win

Is that the moment when everything is going to break through?

The Vols have the talent, the experience, and everything in place to not only win the East, but win the SEC, and even make a real, serious run for the national title, but they haven’t played like it outside of the second halves against both Virginia Tech and Florida.

The cathartic streak-snapper against the Gators showed that this really is a different team with a different mindset and skills compared to last season.

Against Georgia, this is about the defense that has to roll from the start and come up with a strong first half after having so many problems waking up. Last week, Ole Miss put the Bulldogs away right out of the gate, and the Vols have the ability to do just that.

Georgia’s offense just isn’t working. Even though the ground game finally got back on track against the Rebels, the passing attack went into the tank completing just 17-of-37 passes and sputtering to stop the momentum. This isn’t an efficient enough passing game to keep up if – and it’s a huge if – Tennessee can be decent in the first quarter.

Get a led, and there won’t be a problem. Don’t get a lead, and the Vols know they can come back.

Why Georgia Will Win

The Bulldogs have to muck this up and keep the Volunteer offense off the field by going on long, grinding drives. That’s the one thing Georgia can do.

The offense not be rolling like it needs to, but it’s at least hanging on to the ball for 35 minutes a game and it’s not making a whole bunch of big mistakes. Considering Tennessee is the ultimate momentum team, Georgia has to take control right away at home – the first true away game for the Vols.

Sony Michel is back and rumbling with 66 yards against Ole Miss, and Nick Chubb should be fine even though he hurt his ankle last week. Considering this is the true comeback game for Chubb – who suffered his knee injury against the Vols last year – it’ll be an emotional moment for team and the crowd.

And it needs to be a big game for Jacob Eason, too.

He’s been sputtering with his consistency, but he’ll get time to work against a mediocre Tennessee pass rush that’s not doing enough considering the talent up front. Eason has to be great considering the focus on the ground game.

What’s Going To Happen?

Will Eason be able to come through and be sharper, quicker and better? Can Tennessee get the job done on the road?

It’s the SEC East championship game, and Tennessee’s experience and confidence will shine through.

It’ll be Georgia’s most physical performance yet with the intensity cranked up several levels, but Joshua Dobbs will come up with his second straight good game and the Vols will show up in the second half – again – to pull this off. It’s going to be a huge fight, though, in a good game for both teams.
