South Florida (6-1) vs. Temple (4-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
Everyone continues to talk about Houston and how good it still might be, but South Florida has been the best team in the American Athletic Conference over the last few weeks, while Temple could push for the East Division title with a win at home against the Bulls.
Just when it seemed like the Owls were about to fall out of the fun after a loss to Memphis, they rallied back to shock UCF on the road last week with the defense starting to step up its play.
No, this isn’t the Temple D of last year, but it’s looking that way more and more, especially against the pass and when it has to get off the field. The Owls are brilliant at coming up with key stops, and they’ll have to do that over and over again against the red hot Bulls.
USF has been crushing everything in its path since falling to Florida State a month ago, helped by an offense that’s rolling at will scoring 38 points or more in the six wins, 42 or more in five of those, and 35 in the loss to the Noles.
Bull QB Quinton Flowers is on fire, running for over 100 yards in three of the last four games including 159 yards against FSU and 157 with three scores last week against UConn. Throw in his effective passing game, connecting on just about everything, hitting over 65% of his passes over the last three weeks, and Temple is in for a rough day.
The USF offense might be fantastic, but the defense has been getting the job done, too.
The Temple offense rallied against the Knights last week, but it’s too erratic attack. The defense will keep it close for a little while, but USF will step up its play on the road and make an emphatic statement that it’s the true star of the American Athletic.
