While the world continues to be focused on Houston, and whether or not it can get back into the College Football Playoff hunt – it can’t – or at least be in the New Year’s Six mix, South Florida has been every bit as good.
The Bulls couldn’t stop the Florida State running game, but all throughout the season the offense has been balanced, explosive, and consistent. They aren’t just beating teams; they’re blowing them out.
Meanwhile, the defense that had to deal with quarterbacks at Syracuse, FSU, Cincinnati and East Carolina that have been terrific all season long, it’s held up well and hasn’t had too many problems against most passing games.
UConn doesn’t have a passing game.
The Huskies have one of the nation’s best run defenses, and it’s got to find a way to grind down the game, keep the score low, and take advantage of every opportunity.
When they’re working and they’re doing things like they want to, the defensive front is active, coming up with stops on first downs, and swarming when teams have to start throwing and getting out of their comfort zone. That’s not going to happen for the Bulls.
On the opposite side, USF should be able to do whatever it wants against a porous UConn offensive line that won’t be able to hold up against everything the Bull defensive front will bring.
The Bulls will get up early and cruise to an easy win in a short week before having to go to Temple.
