South Florida (3-1) vs. Cincinnati (3-1) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 1
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Nippert Stadium, Cincinnati, OH
Call this an elimination game for Cincinnati if it doesn’t win, and call it a major step back for South Florida if it doesn’t get the job done.
This is a very strong, very solid Bull team that suffered from dealing with an angry Florida State team looking to make a statement last week. With three of the next four games at home, and no Houston to deal with from the West, win this, beat East Carolina next week, and the East should be over.
Can the Bearcats keep up the pace offensively with a backup quarterback?
Hayden Moore missed last week’s game against Miami University and – rivalry schmivalry – it was way too close a call against a mediocre RedHawk team.
The run defense has been terrific so far against everyone by Houston QB Greg Ward, and overall the D has been just opportunistic enough to make up for the way-too-many mistakes on the offensive side, but that’s not going to fly against the Bulls.
Cincy has turned it over three times in every game but the win over Purdue, and considering USF doesn’t screw up, and turnover will likely turn into Bull points.
The ground game rolled against FSU even with Marlon Mack having problems with an eye injury. If Quinton Flowers can run like Ward did in Houston’s win – or like last week against the Seminoles – the Bearcats won’t have an answer.
USF will keep the chains moving and Cincinnati won’t, but it’ll still come down to a late scoring drive off a turnover for the Bulls to get out with a thriller.
