The 2016 CFN Preseason All-America & Top 25 Quarterbacks. Who are the best and brightest quarterbacks coming into the college football season?
2016 CFN Preseason All-America Quarterback
1. Deshaun Watson, Jr. Clemson
It would’ve been an interesting debate. Would Watson have been the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL draft to the Los Angeles Rams instead of Jared Goff? How about No. 2 to Philly instead of Carson Wentz? Even more interesting, would Cleveland have traded out of the two if Watson was on the board?
Watson might not have typical NFL size, but he’s a special talent who showed against Alabama just how amazing he can be against an elite defense. This is his year – he could be the signature star if he can stay healthy and do 2015 all over again.
2016 CFN Preseason Second-Team All-America Quarterback
2. J.T. Barrett, Jr. Ohio State
It’s Barrett’s gig now after waiting around to take over on a full-time basis again. All healthy, experienced, and with the skills to do everything the Ohio State offense needs, he’s the heady playmaker for a rebuilding attack. Expect him to be even more of a passer this year as he grows into a bigger pro prospect.
2016 CFN Preseason Third-Team All-America Quarterback
3. Baker Mayfield, Sr. Oklahoma
The baller of ballers, the brash former Texas Tech Red Raider waited his turn and stepped up with a Heisman-caliber season in the new-look Oklahoma offense. He might not have the same numbers with questions at receiver and so much running back talent to take the pressure off, but he’s the heart-and-soul of the attack. With games against Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett in the first few weeks of the season, he’ll get a shot to make a Heisman statement right away.
