Prediction & Game Preview To Come
Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA, 9:00 ET, ESPN
BYU, Independent, 8-4
It was supposed to be a brutal season with the hardest-looking schedule in college football, but the Cougars survived the rocky start to roll through after the first month. Flying under the radar after starting 1-3, the closed out 7-1 with the running attack cranking things up, and a defense that forced takeaway after takeaway. BYU finished eighth in the nation against the run.
Wyoming, Mountain West, 8-5
Just when it seemed like head coach Craig Bohl was on a mega-hot season in a win-or-else campaign, the Cowboys won. With a great offensive balance, an improved quarterback situation with Josh Allen becoming one of the Mountain West’s new stars, and with some flash to the attack, this is a fun team. And then there’s the defense, which fell off the floor late in the year in a run of three losses in the final four games. Lose to BYU, and the breakthrough season will suddenly seem more like an aberration, even with four wins over bowl teams.
