Pac-12 Week 2 Rankings, Predictions & Quick Takes

How are the Pac-12 predictions so far? SU: 20-1, ATS: 8-7

1. Washington (2-0)

Final Score: Washington 59, Idaho 14
Prediction: Washington 58, Idaho 13, Washington -37.5
Up Next: Portland State

Quick Take: That’s what you need to see out of your quarterback against a bad defense. Jake Browning was razor-sharp completing 23-of-28 passes for 294 yards and five scores. However, for the second straight week the running game was just okay, averaging 4.2 yards per carry with Myles Gaskin having a problem getting going with 67 yards and a score.

2. Oregon (2-0)

Final Score: Oregon 44, Virginia 26
Prediction: Oregon 47, Virginia 26, Oregon -24.5
Up Next: at Nebraska

Quick Take: The Ducks might have sputtered a bit late, and the defense had a few problems in the third quarter, but Dakota Prukop had his second straight great game throwing for 331 yards and three scores. It was Royce Freeman’s day with 207 yards and two scores as the offense put up 632 yards and was never threatened. However, the 12 penalties were a bit too many and the pacing still isn’t quite where the team probably wants it to be.

3. Stanford (1-0)

Up Next: USC

4. USC (1-1)

Final Score: USC 45, Utah State 7
Prediction: USC 31, Utah State 17, USC -16.5
Up Next: Stanford

Quick Take: Exhale – USC is pretty good. That was more like how things are supposed to go with Max Browne and Sam Darnold combining for 244 yards and four scores, while the depth got involved as the blowout marched on. The defensive front handled the Utah State spread running game well allowing just 49 yards – the D looked like it got its groove back.

5. Arizona State (2-0)

Final Score: Arizona State 68, Texas Tech 55
Prediction: Arizona State 45, Texas Tech 38, ASU -3
Up Next: at UTSA

Quick Take: Could the offense possibly keep pace with Texas Tech? Uh, yeah. Kalen Ballage went Beast Mode for seven touchdowns and 137 yards on just 13 carries, and he caught a scoring pass, too. Manny Wilkins proved he was up to the task with 351 yards and two scores, doing his part to bomb away along with Tech’s Patrick Mahomes. The D didn’t show up, but that was the nature of the game – ASU did its part.

6. UCLA (1-1)

Final Score: UCLA 42, UNLV 21
Prediction: UCLA 41, UNLV 17, UCLA -26
Up Next: at BYU

Quick Take: Josh Rosen wasn’t great, and the offense couldn’t put it away until the fourth quarter, but Soso Jamabo’s three touchdowns helped overcome the various inconsistencies. Rosen spread it around with 14 different receivers coming up with grabs, but it was an uneven effort overall. The team had better be sharper in Provo next week or it’ll get tagged by BYU.

7. Utah (2-0)

Final Score: Utah 20, BYU 19
Prediction: Utah 26, BYU 20, Utah -3.5
Up Next: at San Jose State

Quick Take: It might not have been anything pretty, but the Utes beat BYU again. For many, Ute fans, the year is made. However, to make any noise in the Pac-12 the offense has to quickly find something it can rely on every week. Troy Williams struggled with three picks, and the Utes’ six turnovers overall was enough to be a total disaster – but the D stepped it up. Put in a hole time and again, the Utes came up with big plays of its own including the game-sealer. 2-0 is 2-0 – with a win over BYU. Take it.

8. Colorado (2-0)

Final Score: Colorado 56, Idaho State 7
Prediction: Colorado 52, Idaho State 13
Up Next: at Michigan

Quick Take: The Buff season couldn’t have started out any better. First, the blowout over Colorado State, and now the tune-up for Michigan with a fantastic scrimmage against Idaho State. Sefo Liufau has been red hot, hitting 15-of-18 passes with two scores and running for another, while the defense allowed just 96 yards of total Bengal offense.

9. California (1-1)

Final Score: San Diego State 45, California 40
Prediction: San Diego State 31, California 17, SDSU -7
Up Next: Texas

Quick Take: Ohhhhh, noooo. Cal really, really can’t tackle, and now it has to face Texas? Yeeeeesh. Davis Webb bombed his way back into the game, but he missed on a few throws that almost pulled out the miraculous comeback. The offense works – he threw for 522 yards and five scores – but he couldn’t overcome the awful Bear defense that got run over for 334 yards and three scores.

10. Washington State (0-2)

Final Score: Boise State 31, Washington State 28
Prediction: Boise State 45, Washington State 34, Boise State -12
Up Next: Idaho

Quick Take: The Cougars passed up on field goals, failed on 4th-and-shorts, and whiffed on clock management late in the game to ruin 480-yard, four score day on 71 passes from Luke Falk. The Cougars woke up in the second half, and the defense did its part to give Falk a chance at the comeback, but ten penalties and too many key misfires were too much to overcome.

11. Arizona (1-1)

Final Score: Arizona 31, Grambling 21
Prediction: Arizona 58, Grambling 20
Up Next: Hawaii

Quick Take: With Anu Solomon injured, it was up to Nick Wilson and Brandon Dawkins to take over the running game and make the Arizona offense go. Brandon Dawkins threw for 223 yards and a score, but it was the ground attack that saved the day after getting down 21-3 at the half. The offense hasn’t kicked it in yet, but there shouldn’t be a problem against Hawaii – there had better not be a problem against Hawaii.

12. Oregon State (1-0)

Up Next: Idaho State
