Welcome to the future of the Pac-12.

Oregon might be struggling, but it rebounded with a nice win over Arizona State when the offense found its mojo again, and the team has found its quarterback.

6-6, 225-pound freshman Justin Herbert stepped into the mix a few weeks ago, trying to pick up the pieces in the Washington debacle, and then roaring against Cal with six touchdown passes and throwing for 489 yards and four scores against the Sun Devils.

Meanwhile, USC’s season turned around when its own freshman quarterback stepped in and the offense stepped up.

Sam Darnold grabbed the starting job for the Utah game and was terrific in the loss, and he hasn’t slowed down ever since with the Trojans coming up with a four-game winning streak with five touchdown passes in each of the last two games.

The Trojan offense has started rolling and looking like it was supposed to from the start, scoring 41 points or more in three of the last four games with all the skill players kicking it in around Darnold. The machine will keep on rolling against an Oregon defense that hasn’t even been close all season long.

The Ducks have the nation’s second-worst defense in college football, allowing 530 yards per game, but the O should be able to keep up the pace for a while with 103 points in the last two weeks around Hebert.

Can USC avoid the big turnovers that have been the one big issue under Darnold? He fumbles too much, with the Trojans giving it up four times against Colorado and three against Cal.

Yeah, Oregon will come up with a few key takeaways to keep this close for a while, but the defense will buckle as the game goes on. The USC secondary will give up yards, but the defensive front will hold its own.
