Oregon State (2-6) vs. Stanford (5-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 5
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Stanford Stadium, Stanford, CA
Has Stanford turned it around? One win over Arizona doesn’t mean it’s time to start thinking the defending Pac-12 champions are about to make a move, but the Cardinal looked good for the first time in a long time with a season-high 34 points.
The offensive consistency hasn’t been there all year – at least any positive offensive consistency – but Christian McCaffrey turned that around against the Wildcats with 169 yards and two scores, looking like the guy everyone’s been waiting for.
With the struggling passing game, No. 7 needed to be amazing.
Nothing’s working for the Stanford passing game, with new starter Keller Chryst completing just 14-of-30 passes for 104 yards and two scores with a pick.
As rough as the Stanford offense might be, Oregon State’s is having a harder time, especially through the air.
The Beavers gave Washington State all it could handle in a 35-31 loss last week, and beat Cal, showing they could handle dealing with the high-octane passing teams. That’s not Stanford.
For all the problems the Cardinal have been having, the defense has been solid – allowing ten points in each of the last three games – and has been good enough against decent passing teams. Oregon State has the least-efficient passing attack, and the running game won’t pick up the slack against this group.
McCaffrey will go off again, running for over 150 yards to once again pick up the slack for another dead offense.
