Baylor (6-2) vs. Oklahoma (7-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 12
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
It’s Baylor’s last stand in the Big 12 title chase, and with the way the things are going for the program, it might be the last realistic shot to stay relevant – at least on the field – before massive changes kick in.
Losers of two straight, the defense crumbled against Texas and TCU as part of a rough stretch of three bad performances in four games. Now it has to deal with a red-hot offense that got through the quirky weeknight game at Iowa State, but still rumbled despite missing some key parts.
It’s all working at just the right time for a Sooner team that still has a desperate shot to get into the College Football Playoff, needing to win out and look amazing doing it.
OU has won six straight with the passing game rolling at will and the ground attack grinding out yards in chunks no matter who’s carrying the ball. With Samaje Perine (injury) and Joe Mixon (suspension) back to go along with what Baker Mayfield is doing – hitting 71% of his throws or more in every game but Ohio State and Kansas, and with 19 touchdown passes with two picks over the last four games, it’s all working.
As good as Mayfield has been, though, this will be about the Sooner running game.
The Bear defensive front has been blasted ever since the middle of September, giving up 200 yards or more in every game but the win over Kansas. The two worst performances from the run D came in the last two weeks, allowing 257 yards and two scores to Texas, and 431 yards and six touchdowns to TCU.
Get ready for OU to crank it up, averaging well over five yards per carry with 250 yards without a problem on the way to another big win and another massive day from the O.
No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, get ready for the Sooners to start creeping up.
