Oklahoma State (7-2) vs. Texas Tech (4-5) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 12
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Oklahoma State is lurking.
It’s been dismissed a bit after losing to Central Michigan earlier in the year – forgetting how that went down – and with a Big 12-opening loss to Baylor, but it’s on a roll winning five straight games to be deep in the hunt for the conference championship.
The Cowboys haven’t always been consistent, and they had to fight a bit too much against Iowa State and Kansas, but the talent is there to do something special.
This is the last OSU home game of the season, and for an offense and a passing game that can put up yards and points in bunches, watch out. The machine should be cranked up from the start, but can Texas Tech’s defense do anything to stop it?
The Red Raiders got steamrolled over by D’Onta Foreman and the Texas offense, making it the fourth time in the last five games they allowed 44 points or more, and six times in the last eight games. So what’s the problem?
The defensive line has been a nightmare.
There’s no pass rush whatsoever, few big plays, and not enough pressure to bother everyone’s backfield, and now it’s up to Mason Rudolph and the Oklahoma State offense to take advantage. Hitting the 40+ point mark shouldn’t be a problem.
But can the OSU secondary hold up?
Patrick Mahomes and the passing game haven’t been unstoppable lately, but he’s still throwing well, hitting the 305-yard mark in four of the last five games – with an interception in each one. The Cowboy pass defense hasn’t been bad, but it’s hardly a rock allowing 200 yards or more against everyone but SE Louisiana to start the season, and Kansas State last week.
Mahomes will get his yards, but the OSU offense will get more of them.
It’s not going to be Texas Tech–Oklahoma from a few weeks ago, but it’ll be a shootout with video game numbers. It’ll be a whole bunch of fun.
